Kazuki Reika | older sister
Known more commonly as Shion Rie (aka Fuu-chan), Soragumi's top musumeyaku from 2006-2008. Classmates with Miyaki Ren and Daiho Ayato. Retired at the end of 2008, the same year that Suzume debuted. Married Kazuki Ginta in 2012. No children so far. Lives in Shizuoka with her husband. Has always called Suzume "Mimi-chan", from her birth name of Kasumi.
Reika and Suzume are very close. Suzume loves her sister dearly, and counts on the support Reika gives her more than she realizes. If she didn't get her daily texts and steady stream of letters, she would feel lost. She was her sister's biggest fan when Reika was a member of the Revue, and dreamed of following in her footsteps and becoming a top musumeyaku.
However, she is jealous of Reika's successes, even as she thinks on them with pride. She is constantly compared to "Fuu-chan" or "Rie-san" (depending on who is speaking to her), and it needles each time. She is annoyed that, six years on, many of the ladies who knew Reika still refer to Suzume as "Reika's little sister". It doesn't help that Reika's biggest strength as a Takarisienne was dance - what Suzume considers her weakest skill. She is now a year beyond where Reika was when Reika became a top musumeyaku, and that honor seems to be falling further away with each cast announcement. Suzume works hard not to show her negative feelings to the public or to her family - especially not to her sister. The only people who truly know the complications of her feelings are her two best friends, Miki-chan and Bakkun.
Inazuma Mikiko | Classmate, troupe mate, best friend
Known as Miki-chan, Mikiko has been Suzume's best friend since their shared first year at the Takarazuka Music School. Miki-chan is out-spoken, bubbly, and loyal. She knows all, or nearly all, of Suzume's secrets and dreams. She and Suzume live together in the Hankyuu-provided housing for Takarisiennes. Miki-chan has settled comfortably into her role as a character actress in Yukigumi. Her goal is to outlast everyone else in their class and become the kumichou of a troupe one day and a consummate onnayaku because, in her opinion, all the best roles are written for onnayaku.
Suzume trusts Miki-chan completely. She wishes, though, that she could share Miki-chan's opinions of their currently shared lot in troupe, and that she could settle more easily into that role. When roles she hoped for go to other, sometimes younger, musumeyaku, she has trouble remembering to smile. Miki-chan doesn't pass judgment on her, though, and lets her share her tears in the privacy of their living space. In some ways, Miki-chan is another sister to her. Even so, as their reality drifts further from Suzume's desires and closer to Miki-chan's, Suzume feels a little distant from her best friend.
Himura Jun | Classmate, troupe mate, best friend
Bakkun, as she's known, makes up the third part of the friendship triangle. She is an otokoyaku, and is really just starting her ascent toward the top. She was featured as an up-and-comer in the most recent Young Bloods workshop, and she has been given lead roles in the last three shinjen koen performances. She has also received more prominent roles in the main productions - named roles that serve to highlight her talents. There are even rumors that she'll be featured in the next batch of postcards released, because her fan club has grown so much in the last year.
Suzume relies on Bakkun's steadiness and "straight-man" role in their friendship triangle. She gracefully plays the butt of Miki-chan's jokes, and supports Suzume's dreams of being top star with quiet determination. She also encourages Suzume's photography hobby. Thanks to Bakkun, Suzume has mastered the timer on every camera she's ever owned. But, Suzume feels that the other girl is drifting away from her inevitably, as her star rises, and Suzume's fades. Bakkun claims that this is complete nonsense. The two of them are going to be a Top Combi together, and Hankyuu is really just fast-tracking her so she can "catch up" to Suzume. The sentiment is appreciated, but it's starting to wear a little thin, and seem weaker with each iteration.
Hayate Keiko | Fan-club President
The most "formal" of Suzume's close relationships. Hayate-san is 30 years old, and coordinates the efforts of the twenty or so members of Suzume's fan club. The club is recognizable at irimachi or demachi by the powder blue scarves they wear - thick, fluffy, hand-knit ones in winter; thin, decorative ones in summer. Suzume has one of each type, presented to her by Hayate-san, which she wears to the opening night of each run of a show, and calls the scarves her lucky charms.
